Well, Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit is off to a good start thanks to a couple of well attended book signings this last weekend. The book is also generating some nice reviews. Here are some recent excerpts:

• “Told briskly in the rhyme scheme and cadence of ‘Casey at the Bat’, Van Dusen’s tale is inventive and humorous. A cunning twist on the heroic home run that wins the game.” -Kirkus Reviews

• “In this retro rhyming tribute to mind over batter, Van Dusen casts a wide net: anyone who’s a fan of nerds, ‘Casey at the Bat’, classic science fiction or mid-century design should find something to like in these eye-popping pages.” -Publishers Weekly

A good review is a wonderful thing and can help build enthusiasm for a book. If you’ve seen Randy Riley and you feel like writing a review for Amazon, I’d greatly appreciate it. I think their customer reviews are widely read and can be quite influential to a potential customer.

Thanks for spreading the word!

With the lack of snow here in Maine (our lawn is almost completely bare!) and with news that the Boston Red Sox are heading off to their Florida training camp, I’m already thinking spring. I know this is dangerously premature, as April blizzards are not uncommon in these parts, but I’m willing to take the risk. So this Saturday, February 25th at 10:30, at Kennebooks in Kennebunkport, Maine I’ll be celebrating baseball with my friend, Matt Tavares in the first of a series of joint book signings that will take place over the next few months (for a complete list of signings, click on “Spring Signing Schedule” just over there > in the right hand column).

Matt is the wonderful author/illustrator of the newly released There Goes Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived. It’s a beautiful book that was published by Candlewick Press who also published my new baseball book, Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit. Matt had the idea that since both of our books were released on the same day, by the same publisher and have a baseball theme, it might be fun to do some signings together this spring.

So PLAY BALL and BATTER UP! Hope you can join us this Saturday.
